This impressive collection of concept books, wordless books, picture books, and read-aloud stories was artfully compiled by longtime children's book editor and publisher Janet Schulman. Stories are coded red, blue, and green to designate age groupings from baby/toddler books such as Whose Mouse Are You?, through preschool books such as Where the Wild Things Are, to longer stories for ages 5 and older such as Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The reason the book isn't bigger than Babar is because many of the illustrations from each story were reduced or removed to fit the anthology's format. (Leo Lionni's Swimmy, for example, takes up 5 pages total, compared to its original 29 pages.) Brief biographical notes that are surprisingly quirky shine a little light on the 62 authors and illustrators, and an index helps, too, for the child who likes one story best. We love the idea of being within easy reach of a Star-Belly Sneetch, a William Steig donkey, and a Sendak monster at all times, and we're sure your little bookworms will, too. 子供用には絵が小さいとおもうのですが・・・
みなさんのレビューを見て迷いに迷って買いました。私個人の趣味としてはいいのですが、子供用にはやっぱり絵が小さいことと、ページをめくる喜びにかけると思います。読み聞かせるにはいいのですが、絵本の楽しみって、やっぱり絵ですよね。絵の迫力が伝わってこないのです。みなさん書いているように、絵本購入のうえでの参考書には最適ですが、子供に見せて読むにはあーー大きい絵を見せたいと正直思いました。要するに気に入ったものに関しては買いなおしが必要。だってほんものの絵を見せないと絵もすばらしいのにもったいない気がします。

いい本を紹介してくださってありがとうございます。
この本の紹介記事を読んで、正直なところ買うかどうか迷いました。英語だから、子供が自分で読めるようになるまでしばらく時間がかかりそうだし、かと言ってその場で翻訳して読んであげるのもちょっと面倒だし（英語のまま読んであげても子供には理解できないですから）。結局最後は「まあ、自分で読んで楽しもう」と思って自分のために買いました。

だけど、本が送られてきたら、結局子供に取られてしまいました。もう2人で奪い合いです。まず絵がどれも美しい。 全部ではないものの、かなりの絵が私にとって「なつかしい」ものでした。1冊の本の中にこれだけたくさんの話が 入っているなんて、まるで夢のようです。

アルファベットおたくの我が子のお気に入りは「CHIKA　CHIKA　BOOM　BOOM」でした。これだけでもオリジナルの本を買おうと決心しました。

この本は20世紀に書かれた名作絵本を集めたものです。邦訳でも人気の高い「マドレーヌ」、「ババールのお話」、「かいじゅうたちのいるところ」、「おやすみなさいフランシス」などをはじめとする絵本が44冊分入っています。すべての作品について全ページ、全文入っていてオールカラーです。ここで内容を読んでみてから、ここの本を買う指標にしてもいいと思います。大きさはＡ４強のハードカバーでずっしりしています。こどもに読み聞かせることもＯＫですが、親の知識としてもおすすめです。適齢別索引もついていて便利です。
