やっぱり天才
エディはやっぱり天才ということを再確認。つまりこの時点から今に至るまで基本的にやってることはぜんぜん変わってないってこと。センスも技術も姿勢も変わらない。天衣無縫とはこのこと。このアルバムは未だに凄い。そこが大事。

３曲目だけが聴きたくて。。
私がこのCDに出会ったのは、R３４型のスカイラインが出た頃だった。
R３４のCMで３曲目の「You Really Got Me」が使われていたのです。
とにかくギターサウンドがカッコよく、心に残りました。

その当時はギターサウンドのみに心を奪われていましたが、聴けば
聴くほど、各パートも秀逸だとわかります。

もちろん、３曲目だけでなく他の曲もしっかりとロックしています。
ロックファンの方でしたら、一度は聴いてみることをおすすめしますよ★

３曲目は「キンクス」のカヴァーだと聞きますが、オリジナルの曲
も聴いてみたいと思いました。

天才の君臨
既に書かれたレビューに「後世に名を残すのはジミヘンとエディ」と
書かれたものがあったが、まったく大賛成。
ギタリストとしての天才度合いにおいて、
ジミヘンことJimi HendrixとエディことEdward Van Halenは突出した存在だ。
いずれもその後に「模倣者」を大量生産するほど影響度が高く、
どんなに他が真似をしても独特の個性を持ち続けている。

そんなエディの率いるVan Halenのデビューアルバムだが、
これが出たときのロックファンの衝撃は、いかほどのものだったろう？
私がこのアルバムを始めて聞いたのはリリース後数年経ってからだが、
リアルタイムで聞いたロックファンが本当にうらやましい。
あのフレーズ、あの音、それまでのエレキギターの常識を
完全に覆すもので、「どんな風に弾いているんだ？」と
謎解きの楽しみを得られたことだろう。

アルバムの完成度から行くとイマイチかもしれないが、
ロック、特にギターの奏法に与えたインパクトでは
他に並ぶもののない名盤中の名盤と言える。
特に2曲目のインストルメンタル局「Eruption」は
ロックギターを弾くなら必聴のこと。
