バドを食うズートとクラーク
意外にも？リラックスした雰囲気が素敵なセッションだ。ズート・シムズのダウンホームな（くつろいだ）テナーの音色が良い味を出している。ピアノを弾くバドも何故か楽しそう。
１９６１年、パリのブルーノートでのライブ録音。パリ在住時のパウエルを題材にした映画「ラウンドミッドナイト」で、ブルーノートでのライブのシーンがあったのを思い出す。ベースにピエール・ミシェロット、ドラムスにはバド同様パリのExpatriateケニー・クラーク。ドラムスの音が比較的大きくミックスされているので、モダンジャズドラミングの開祖と言われるクラークのプレーをじっくりと楽しめる。緻密なシンバールワークと、変拍子を完璧に捉えたスネアがお見事。この日の準主役のズートのブルージーででウォームなテナーも素晴らしい。大らかで歌心溢れるプレイぶりにじっくりと聴き惚れてしまった。一曲の演奏時間が長いので彼のソロスペーズも充分にとってある。主役の？バド・パウエルはこの二人に食われ気味。でも今夜は、これも良しとしよう。聞き応えのあるライブセッションでたっぷり楽しめました。
