Until this album was released in 1978, Albert Collins had been a journeyman Texas bluesman, little known and unrecorded for six years. His guitar playing here won him a new generation of fans, and set the stage for the popularity he enjoyed until his death. His clustered, sustained, choked, and bent notes, played with his thumb and fingers, set a generation of pickers agog. The tone was piercing; the timing impeccable. Collins' vocals were never quite as strong, but it scarcely mattered as he was the man for whom the electric guitar might have been invented. Albertがブレイクした記念すべきメジャ－デビュ－アルバム
これは'78年に、ブル－ズのメジャ－レ－ベル、Alligatorから出された１作目。彼は'60年代中頃ロックギタリスト達の間で、’テキサスに凄いギタリストがいる’と評判になりヒュ－ストンのPonderosa Clubのレギュラ－バンドとして出演していたところを、'68年に当時のBlues Rockバンド、Cannd Heatのボ－カリストであったBob Hiteに見出され、説得されてCaliforniaに移りImperialというレ－ベルに３枚のアルバムを残した。しかしその３枚とも彼の実力を十分に発揮したものとは言い難い作品であった。そういった意味で彼の真価を発揮した最初のアルバムがこの作品であると言える。彼の魅力は何と言ってもあのテレキャスから繰り出されるユニ－クな'cool sound'.いかにもテキサスらしく荒々しく、攻撃的で乾いたサウンド。このアルバムのあとも、このレ－ベルで順調に高水準の作品を発表して行くことになる。蛇足だがボ－カルは目をつむるほうがよい。

モダンテキサスエレクトリックブルーズ
テキサスはレオナ生まれ（１９３３～１９９３）。ジミへン、ゲーリームーアなど影響を受けているギタリストは後をたたない。かみそりのように突き刺すテレキャスターのサウンド、うねるチョーキング、泣きまくる減衰音など聴きどころは多い。彼のピークであり、今後これを越えることはない。ボーカルは味があり、決してうまいものではない。がしかし、そんな欠点は彼のイモーショナルで繊細なプレーで消え去っている。ギター奏法もすごいけど。やはり込める感情の深さがはんぱではない。後半の"CONVERSATION WITH COLLINS"での泣きのプレーはは圧巻だ。ギターを志す人なら必聴であろうと思われる。
