Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty, released the same year as A Real Mother For Ya , was his most hard-edged release to date. Not only were the grooves more intense, but he also upped the quotient of gritty blues guitar soloing. Despite being released so close to A Real Mother, the album managed to make it to #20 on the Black Albums chart and the lower reaches of the Pop chart.

隠れ名盤
ファンク・ブルース期、というか、ファンタジー〜DJM以降のジョニー・ギターというと、まず『エイント・ザット・ア・ビッチ』『リアル・マザー・フォ・ヤ』が定番だが、これも負けずに充実したアルバムだ。しかも、今回はボーナス・トラックが2曲。そのうちの1曲が、たっぷり5分以上ある、ファンク・ブルース。今のヒップホップともつながる、ストイックなビート感が実にクール。結構得した気になる。
