First of all, it must be noted that any real tribute to Van Halen seems incomplete without a version of "Jump", from their early-80s crossover masterpiece 1984. That said, Tribute To Van Halen is a fairly faithful reinterpretation of some of this seminal rock band's finest moments. Actually, "reinterpretation" is a bit of a strong word: for the most part, these versions sound remarkably like straight-ahead cover versions. This is probably due to the fact that these songs weren't actually recorded by different bands, but a loose assembly of musicians from such bands as Black Sabbath, Kiss, WASP, Poison, Motley Crue and Rainbow--but considering that the most recognisable individual playing on the album is Dweezil Zappa (on "Unchained"), that's not really saying much. Still, it's never a bad thing to hear songs like "Panama", "Running With The Devil" and "Hot For Teacher". Would have been better if it had a version of "Jump", though. --Robert Burrow

EDWARD VAN HALENが好きなら結構楽しめます！
VAN HALENのトリビュートもの、錚々たるギタリストが参加しているだけあって、EDDIE大好きギタリストは思わずニヤリとしてしまうこと請け合い！みんなEDDIEが大好きなんだ！
DWEEZIL ZAPPA、DOUG ALDRICH、YNGWIE MALMSTEEN、GEORGE LYNCH、REB BEACH、JAKE E.LEE、ALBERT LEE、BRAD GILLIS、BLUES SARASENO、MITCH PERRY。みんなコピーしてきたんだなあっていうのがよく分かります。特に“UNCHAINED”でのDWEEZILは直接EDDIEからギターを教わったこともあると思うんですが、ほんとソックリ！フランジャーの使い方もほぼ完璧で微笑ましいです！BLUESも相当コピーしたんだなという感じ、いいタッチで弾いていてウマいです。MITCHももう巧の域。
とにかく、EDDIE好きな彼らが演るのが、すべてDAVE時代というのもある意味納得。ワイルドさが今一つ迫れていない曲もちらほらありますが、あの頃のVAN HALENはパワーあったし、影響力も大きかったと思います。実際にバンドを演ってる人たちにDAVE時代のファンが圧倒的に多いのは、アメリカも同じなんですね。
ウタのほうは、これまたDAVE大好き丸出し、ほぼ完全にマネ？コピー？を実現しているJEFF SCOTT SOTO（“SO THIS IS LOVE?”）に思わずニンマリ、です。敢闘賞！
とはいえ、EDDIEも含め、VAN HALENは唯一無二なんだなあと再認識せざるを得ませんが、DAVE時代をON TIMEで通過している我々世代はきっと楽しめます。みんな大好き、VAN HALEN！
