楽しくてやがて悲しき. . .
コンピュータに詳しい人には馴染み深いことも、フツーの人々は案外知らない。パソコンは部下に任せっぱなしのオジさん達や、子供に理解があると自負しているような教師や親は、ぜひ読むべし。家庭環境をベタに理由にするあたり、著者もオジさんの仲間だが、翻訳者のフェアな後書きが、その喰い足りなさを十分にカバーしている。

「だからどうした？」の読後感
ハッキングやハッカーコミュニティについてほとんど知らない人にはまぁまぁ面白い本かもしれません。ネットワーク社会について造詣が深い読者にとっては、ハッカーに取材して、彼等の告白を原稿にしただけの、よくある「だからどうした本」にすぎません。

ガキん子ハッカーに同情してどうする
ハキングは反社会的で身勝手な行為であり、高度なテクニックが要求される知的な作業でもなんでもない。本書は、コンピュータやネット文化にナイーブな人がティーン・ハッカー（kiddy hackers）に理解を示し、同情的になるには良い本かもしれなし。しかし、真面目にネット社会の病巣について知ろうとするなら、偏った本を読むことになる。
