めちゃくちゃ便利
痒いところに手が届く本。コンマの切り方、thatとwhichの使い分け、howeverの位置と意味の関係など、英文を書いてて誰もが一度は思い悩むところを、的確に教えてくれます。薄いので一読するのも時間はかからないし、手元においてリファレンスとしても重宝します。

中級者以上で、普段から英文を書く人向け。

激薄(85p)だけど密度は濃い
良い文章の書き方を解説している本です。
　初めの14ページは文法上の注意点が列挙されています。文法用語の意味が分からなくても、巻末にGlossary(用語解説)が載っているので便利です。また、良い表現と悪い表現を対比して紹介したり、ネイティブでも陥りやすい表現上のミスなどが、分かりやすく解説されています。
　慣用的表現ですら文法的に完璧でなければ「ダメ」と言い切る著者の姿勢は厳し過ぎるとさえ感じますが、formalな英文を書く際には絶大な威力を発揮するでしょう。
　この手の本は単調で退屈になりがちですが、所々にさりげなく光る著者のユーモアセンスがほどよく刺激になます。
　コストパフォーマンスが非常に高い本です。

余談ですが、私がこの本を知ったのは、スティーブン・キング氏が著書"On Writing(邦題は『小説作法』)"で「文章の書き方を指南する本は大抵ウソだらけだが、この本は例外だ。モノ書きを目指す人は全員読むべきだ」と、この本を絶賛していたからです。

If you've read the editor reviews and still not bought this book - then do. You'll find this book is possibly the best money that you'll ever spend. To begin with it is probably the book that the aforementioned editors used to fine-tune their style and it's a certainty that it's in the library of many current writers; even Stephen King keeps it as his writing companion. It's 'the little book.' It contains the original "seven rules of usage, eleven principles of composition, a few matters of form, and a list of words and expressions commonly misused," as propounded by William Strunk, and finally E.B. White addresses a chapter to "An Approach to Style." The profoundity of the book is timeless. Buy it!
